WSPS Concert Band

The Wallsend South Public School Concert Band is a showcase of some of the amazing talent possessed by students of the school. At full strength the band has 45 members ranging from Years 3 to 6.

The band enjoys playing at school assemblies, Grandfriends' Day, ANZAC Day and other special in-school events. The band also performs for the Wallsend Seniors Group, a regular afternoon where the children perform and mix with some of our local seniors for afternoon tea and a chat. Each year the children join with 4 other local school bands at Kotara High School where a workshop was held, followed by a fundraising concert in the evening. Some students choose to attend our local band camp held in November at Glenrock Lagoon. This is a great opportunity to join with children from other schools in further developing musical skills and love for music.

The band is successful in the NSW School Bands Festival, displaying some of the best talent in the contest and winning a bronze medal which adds to our collection of awards won over many years. Our musicians showcase individual talents at our Annual Family Band Night, performing solo and small group items, and playing as part of our band. The Wallsend South Pubic School band also plays at our school's Celebration Night showing our talents on a larger scale to our school community.

The fabulous achievements of our school band are largely due to the many hours of hard work that the children put into practise, the dedication of our band conductor Alison Tonkin, the band organisers Tracey Moloney, Margaret Bramble and Ruth Morris and of course, the ongoing support of many parents.
